The library was transformed into a warm and child-friendly forest where trees spring to life from all of the walls. The joyful forest theme of the foyer mural (painted in June 2009) was continued into this space. In honour of the popular reading program, a Blue Spruce tree and Silver Birch trees were featured prominently to the left and right of the main entrance.

A rural landscape, with cattle, remind viewers of the rural past of the area where Plum Tree Park Public School now stands. An Urban landscape brings to mind the current setting of the school and turns our imaginations toward the future.

This mural project aligned with the Ontario Visual Arts Curriculum and involves students. Every student and staff member of the school participated by colouring one leaf ( 7” x 4.5”) that was added to panels that then included in the mural. Students learned about elements of design as they created colourful patterns and designs on their leaves. Students were set up for artistic success and then their artwork was showcased. Students are able to identify their own artwork within the finished mural project and can recognize its valuable contribution to the overall success of the mural project.
