At Alloa Public School students participated in a 2-part mural project. |
| PART 1 involved 100 primary students in grades 2 and 3 who painted colourful stars within the lower section of the wall. This part of the project was specifically designed for the needs and abilities of primary students. |
| PART 2 involved 60 intermediate students in grade 6 who painted orbiting planets within the upper section of the wall. Simple colour theory and the principle of movement were introduced. The subject matter of the solar system integrates with the grade 6 science curriculum. |
| Both parts of the project were designed to complement each other and align with the Ontario Visual Arts Curriculum. |

| PART 2 |
| A computer generated diagram of the mural (below) was provided before the project began. |

|
| Students each painted one section of the background using a blue analogous colour scheme. They created pattern using elements of design such as lines, shapes and textures. The repeating curved lines in the background reflect the orbital paths of the planets in our solar system and create the illusion of movement. |
