| This mural was created for the gymnasium of St. Joachim Catholic School in Brampton, a busy forum for a wide variety of activities including sports tournaments, school assemblies and masses. The purpose of creating this mural was to share the story of St. Joachim with the people who use this facility including students, teachers, parents and, indeed the community of Brampton and beyond. | |

| The images explained: This colourful mural tells the story of St. Joachim and the Holy Family. The central picture shows baby Jesus with his mother, Mary and his father, Joseph. Mary’s parents, Ann and Joachim stand behind them. On the left, an image of King David reminds us of the fulfillment of scriptures through the birth of Jesus into the line of King David. Purple is used to show King David’s royalty and red is used to show his wealth. Often King David is shown with a harp because he wrote many of the psalms which are songs of praise to God. In the next image, St. Joachim receives a message from God through the angel, Gabriel. The message promises to give him the answer to his prayers with the birth of a daughter. Joachim soon becomes the father of Mary. Viewers can be inspired by his faithfulness and obedience. To the right of the central panel is an image of Jesus as a boy in the temple. In this Bible story Mary had been looking for Jesus and found him there speaking with wise men. This Bible story seems to mark the very beginning of Jesus' ministry on earth. Finally, the collection of images culminates with Mary and the crucifix. Through the Apostles’ Creed, Christians around the world proclaim that on “The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead." The collection of images are linked together by a multitude of light rays that radiate from a common source. This reminds us of God’s gentle work in all of our lives, from the beginning, to the end, and beyond. | |
