Oh Canada! |

| In this 2-part mural project students in grade 4 painted Canadian maple leaves and students in grade 5 painted a multitude of children at play. The wide variety of designs, patterns and colours within the children's artwork is a reflection of their Canadian social studies program and, indeed, is a celebration of the culturally diverse community in which they live. | ||

This mural fills a long hallway from floor to ceiling and involved more than 300 young artists. It was a collaborative effort where children used elements of design such as colour, lines, shapes and textures to create designs and patterns within pre-drawn shapes. In turn, a background of trees and an outline for each shape was carefully added for them. |

| Students first created plans for their artwork on paper using pencils, crayons and markers. Then, the students worked with the artist in small groups and received one-on-one instruction. The mural project aligned with the Ontario Visual Arts Curriculum and integrated with the Social Studies program. | ||

| The mural project was done in celebration of the students' graduation from Claireville Public School in the year of the school's official opening. Many teachers and staff joined in on the fun as well by adding their own leaves or people. It was exciting to see the wide variety of creative ideas and the success of each one. | ||
