What's the buzzzz?

In June, 2005, about 75 students in grade 6 worked together to create a colourful mural located in the stairwell of the new section of their school. A variety of very large letters spell out “B SHARP”, an acronym that stands for “safety, honesty, attitude, respect and participation”. Plum Tree Park Public School has adopted these values as their school motto and a bee as their school mascot. In this curriculum aligned visual arts activity, students worked in small groups with local artist, Judy Willemsma. Students used harmonious colours and learned about painting techniques. Most importantly, the graduating grade 6 students enjoyed the creative process as they left their mark in a way that was fun, colourful and very successful.

Details were added to adjacent walls as time permitted.

The planning stage of this project included measurements and photos (the "before" photo is shown left). Concept drawings (the final one shown below) were provided and a colour scheme was carefully planned.
