| Students at Roberta Bondar Public School participated in a curriculum aligned visual arts activity where they worked together to create a colourful mural for their stairwell. The theme of this mural focussed on “water habitat” which was in keeping with the overall theme for the four stairwells in the school where each stairwell theme focuses on a different classical element: earth, wind, fire and water. |

Participants in this mural project included all of the grade 2 students as well as students from a cross-section of grade levels who belonged to their Passionate Earthling student club. Students learned about elements of design such as colours, lines and shapes, and how they could be used to create a joyful feeling for their school. This art project was a collaborative effort where each student designed and painted one fish. Students prepared for this mural painting activity by planning their fish on paper. Each student, regardless of artistic level, enjoyed success and recognized how their artwork contributed to the overall success of the mural project. |
