Students in grade 6 worked together to create a colourful mural for a new stairwell in their school to mark the occasion of their graduation. Working with the mural painter in small groups, each student painted a plum and two leaves, choosing colours from a carefully selected colour palette. In this curriculum aligned visual arts activity, students learned painting techniques through explanations and one-on-one demonstrations.

A bee motif, adopted by Plum Tree Park Public School as their mascot, was repeated over the plum tree forest background. Valuable messages about environmental awareness and fitness were added. When completed, the students could recognized their valuable contributions to this successful visual arts project. Indeed, it was an opportunity to leave a small legacy as they prepared to move ahead to middle school.
