A child-friendly, joyful feeling was created in the stairwell at Homestead Public School with a large, colourful mural that wraps the walls. The school mascot and valuable school slogans are featured prominently along with Jack-pine Trees that remind us of Canadian wilderness.

This mural project was a collaborative effort where each grade 5 student participated by designing and painting one square. Students learned about elements of design, including colours, lines and shapes. They received one-on-one instruction and demonstration as they learned about painting techniques and created non-representational patterns and designs. Students are proud to point out their artwork to friends as they pass through the hallway. They are proud for a job well done, and, perhaps they are proud of their school as well.
