Students will enjoy creating these 3-dimensional creatures. Click on any of the examples below for printable patterns. For best results print or photocopy on to cardstock.
Students will develop their spatial sense and gain an understanding of 3-dimensional form through these simple art activities. Teachers should create an animal as an example. Students should then use the example as "visual instructions" rather than following a step-by-step list of written or spoken instructions. Some students may need to try this activity more than once before they succeed (e.g. "should I cut on this line or fold?"). Allow students to learn through doing. Developing these skills will help students to problem solve, a necessary skill for mathematics.
